Administrative History of Nellore
Nellore came under the state of Andhra Pradesh on 1st November 1956 when the states were reorganized on a linguistic basis. Nellore had been highly influenced by the Aryan invasion and later by the Mauryan rulers.Nellore is the administrative headquarters of Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district, one of the 23 districts of the state of Andhra Pradesh. As per the census of 2011, the total population of Nellore district was 2,966,082, and among the population, 22.45% is urban. The district is named after the renowned freedom fighter Potti Sri Ramulu, who died fasting in an attempt to achieve the formation of a separate state for the Telugu people. The name of Nellore district is the longest administrative name in India.
Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy of YSR Congress Party is the Member of Parliament from Nellore and N. Janardhana Reddy is the Sitting Member of Rajya Sabha from Nellore.
